Obituary
Birdie Beauseigneur, 97, of Lone Tree, formerly of Kalona, died Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the Lone Tree Care Center.

Birdie Beauseigneur was born on March 31, 1924 on a farm outside of Osceola, Nebraska to Alvin and Hazel (Hanshew) Weeden. She was an only child, growing up during the Great Depression where her father was an auctioneer.

On February 26, 1941, Birdie eloped to Bellville, Nebraska where she was married to Verle Beauseigneur. Verle worked for AT&T and the couple lived in over 60 cities across the country for the first 25 years of their marriage before settling in Kalona, Iowa in 1966. They had four children between 1941 and 1956. When her youngest child entered kindergarten, Birdie returned to the classroom to complete and earn her diploma, graduating in 1962 from Muscatine High School.

Birdie worked for Wessel's Insurance for a number of years before purchasing the agency along with Barb Smith, and running the business until her retirement in the late 1980s.

Birdie did not struggle taking advantage of her retirement, traveling from coast to coast and abroad with family and friends, bowling, golfing, playing violin in the New Horizons Senior Orchestra, and going to dances with friends. She was a member of the Holy Trinity parish in Richmond, Iowa. She enjoyed reading, writing, bird watching, and researching her family history in detail.

Birdie is survived by three of her four children, Toni (Marv) Wilson; Joe (Lydia) Beauseigneur; and Nina (Mike) Tadlock, 17 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins, including Gail Spatz and Vera Rachuy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin, and mother, Hazel; her husband of 44 years, Verle; her oldest daughter, Nyla (Dave) Morrison; and her son-in-law, Dave Morrison; an infant granddaughter; and great-grandson, Alec Beauseigneur-Jimenez. Birdie was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who will be missed by countless loved ones. Her four children all believed that they were her favorite, and at one point or another, each of them were.

A family graveside service is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made by check to the Lone Tree Care Center or Friends of Windward Wounded Warriors (Honolulu Navy League, PO Box 31032, Honolulu, HI 96820).
