Rev. John Hill was born in the Township of Berry, County of Worcester, Massachusetts, the 13th day of September, 1764. His father moved to the county of Hampshire in the aforementioned state when he was five years old, where he lived and died after the death of his mother. John wandered here and there until the year 1800 when he heard the Rev. Jos. Guel preach in upper Canada, near Queenstown, on the Niagara River, when and where he was converted, and in time became a Methodist circuit preacher. In 1812, there was a prospect of war between Canada and the States, he settled his business in Canada and crossed with his family to Buffalo the 5th day of March and the 12th day of June following, war was declared. From Buffalo, he went to Geneseo, Livingstone County. His health was poor and his family large, and finally on April 2, 1834, after much wandering, they arrived in Princeville, Peoria Co., State of Illinois. To him and his wife, Phoebe, were born ten children, all of whom they reared. Their names were Silas, Phineas, John, Sarah, James, Benjamin, Mehitabel, Phoebe, Maria, and Abigail. He died 1845 age 77, and is buried in the Princeville cemetery.
Rev. John Hill's son John was born Dec. 9, 1798 – he and his wife Leah Ogden owned a farm eight miles from Princeville where Smith, James, Mary, Clark, Emaline, and Cornelia were reared. John and James perished in a blizzard between Chillicothe and Princeville.
