William (Bill) Clay Hundley, Jr. was born on February 8, 1929,
in his grandmother Moore's house in Atchison, KS.
He was the first child of William Clay Sr. and Elizabeth Pearl (Moore) Hundley.
He was later joined by siblings: Sam – Millie – Jim – Shirley – Jerry – Larry – Carol.
Bill spent his childhood on a farm located three miles south of Horton, KS,
where, with his brother Sam, he cared for the livestock during the week,
including milking cows, feeding hogs and chickens, and caring for the farm dogs.
He attended a one-room country elementary school,
where he helped to keep the stoves so that the school was warm.
He graduated from Atchison Community County High School. in Effingham KS.
He received both a bachelor's degree in agricultural education
and a master's degree in adult education from Kansas State University. (Go Cats!)
Bill served in the Marine Corps for three years,
where he drove a gas trick, planned and supervised camp training,
and travelled to different locations.
He worked as the Douglas County 4-H agent,
the State Extension poultry specialist,
the Butler County 4-H agent,
the Rice County Extension director and agriculture agent,
and the Douglas County Extension director and horticulture agent.
He married his first wife Margaret Anne "Peggy" Parks on October 12,1958
He later met JoAnn J. King at church, thanks to an introduction by Rowena Pine,
and they married on July 29, 1989, at First UMC here in Lawrence.
They enjoyed traveling in their motor home throughout the United States.
She survives of the home.
Bill valued faith, family and friends,
and he enjoyed woodworking (making cribs for David and Pam and highchair for Mark)
and gardening … and golf!
Bill was an active member of First United Methodist Church,
serving as financial secretary for 10 years and teaching Disciple classes.
Bill passed away at the age of 93 on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Bridge Haven in Lawrence, KS.
