Born at Cambridge, Md., February 27, 1794; son of Solomon Birckhead. A.B., Dickinson College, 1813; a defender of Fort McHenry, 1814; M.D., University of Maryland, 1817; attended Hotel Dieu, Paris; he was the author of "Letters for the Times," 16mo, Baltimore, 1855, and "A Voice from the South," 12mo, Baltimore, 1861. Died at Baltimore, of Bright's disease, September 2, 1865. (Quinan, John Russell, Medical Annals of Baltimore from 1608 to 1880, including Events, Men and Literature to which is added a Subject Index and Record of Public Services Baltimore: Press of Isaac Friedenwald: 64)
