She was born on Dec. 31, 1928, in Sheboygan, daughter of the late William and Meta (Erdmann) Hernberger. On May 23, 1959, she married Arland Lawrence at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Sheboygan Falls. Irene was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newtonburg, and enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing cards.
Survivors include her husband: Arland Lawrence, Manitowoc; a sister: LaVerne Koppelmann, Sheboygan; two sisters-in-law: Irma Draheim and her husband, Harvey, Valders; and Agnes Lawrence, Manitowoc; and a brother-in-law: Alton Borgwardt, Arizona. Also surviving are six nieces: Ruth Camomilli, New Holstein; Karen Voss, School Hill; Susan Spurlin, South Dakota; Darlene Stroete, Oostburg; Diane Koehler, Sheboygan; and Marlene Baer, St. Nazianz; and two nephews: Dennis Draheim, Texas; and Mark Koppelmann, Sheboygan. Other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by a half sister: Marion Kautzer; a brother-in-law: Harold; and a sister-in-law: Blondena.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newtonburg. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Victor Headrick, with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.
