She was a native of Ellabell, GA, and was educated in the public schools of Bryan County.
She was a member of New Greater Owens Temple Ministry, Inc. where she served on the Elder's and Deaconess Ministries and was a former Usher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Annie Smith Houston, her husband, Oscar Benjamin Reed, a daughter, Carolyn C. McPherson, grandson, Randall Sutton, two sisters, Lillie Mae Gamble, Edith Williams, two brothers, Bennie Houston, Sr. and Roger Houston.
