Poley, Oct. 23, 1851, at Auburn, Ills., a daughter of Joseph Poley, descendant of the Pauly family of Lorraine, whose father came from Paris, France, to Kentucky. She was born March 24, 1828, in Muhlenburg county, Ky. He attended college at Bloomington, Ind. Moved to Springfield, Ills., 1841. Taught school for eleven years. Married and engaged in farming and stock-raising on his farm near Auburn, Illinois. Removed to Auburn, 1868, and served several years as police magistrate. Purchased Auburn Bank, and continued as its President until his death in 1891. "Squire" Parks was known as a man of sound common sense and unquestioned integrity. He was fond of literature and the classics, commanding a remarkably fine and correct vocabulary. Took an active interest, as layman, in political affairs. Served as central committeeman, (Republican,) for many years. A devoted churchman, for many years Sunday school superintendent and church trustee. Used neither intoxicants nor tobacco in any form.
