A four-year-old boy was killed last night when he was struck by a "strip-down" truck on Highway 82 near Millwood.

Sgt. T. C. Cateldge, of the Georgia State Patrol, identified the youth as Cleland Ellis Bennett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leland A. Bennett, of Millwood. He said the child darted in front of the truck driven by Simon Vickers, 25, a farmer of the Millwood Community, who was driving in the direction of Waycross. The boy's head was crushed and his leg was broken. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The accident occurred about 7:45 Friday night near Padgett's store about a mile east of Millwood.

Vickers was charged with operating a vehicle with "improper brakes." Troopers D. M. Griffin and J. T. Lansford investigated the accident.

Besides his parents, the child is survived by a brother, Ralph Bennett, a sister, Barbara Ann Bennett, both of Millwood; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Bennett, of Millwood; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Crapps, Blackshear.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday at Hargreaves Chapel near Millwood. Mincy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
