He was born on November 16, 1833, at Binne, Germany, coming to America living at New Orleans, Illinois, and Missouri, eventually to coming to Kansas, in 1859, then Washington county, in 1850, remaining there for twenty two years, near Strawberry, Kansas. He was married to Miss Appalona Giber in 1857, and eleven children were born. His children remember him saying, that there was just one log cabin in Clay Center, when he first came to Kansas. The family moved to Clay Center, in 1882, then in 1893, the moved to Oak Hill, Kansas.
He leaves his wife and nine children; Mrs. Theresa Rembusch; Mrs. Hattie Benjamin, and Joseph, Peter, Henry, Philip, Adam, John and Matthew Mildfelt. Plus, many great and grandchildren. He lived to know one great-great-grandchild, the five year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Burch, of Idana, Kansas.
