Musician. Born in New York City, he was renowned as one of the greatest classical violinists of the 20th Century. Hailed as a child prodigy at age 5, his father was a violinist in the New York Philharmonic and his mother a Juilliard-trained pianist. Rabin made his first professional appearance at age ten, with the Havana Philharmonic in 1947, made his recording debut on the Columbia Masterworks label in 1949 and performed at age 13 at Carnegie Hall in 1950. In the 1950s, with Capitol-EMI, he recorded some of his most noted concertos such as the Paganini Violin Concerto No. 1, Wieniawski and Caprices for solo violin. He continued to perform regularly in concerts around the world, was a regular at the Royal Albert Hall in London and made broadcast recitals during the 1960s. He died at the age of 35 from a head injury sustained in a fall at his New York City apartment.
