On February 26, 1861, Jane married James Abercrombie in Northumberland and Durham, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of John and Mary Abercrombie.

James and Jane lived in Ontario until their surviving children were all grown. Between 1901-1906, their daughter Mary Ann and her family moved from Ontario to Edmonton, Alberta, and then between 1906-1911, James and Jane followed them. They lived there until their passing.
James passed away on 22 November 1911, in New Lunnon, Alberta (just outside Edmonton) and was buried at the Fort Saskatchewan Cemetery. His wife Jane passed away in April 1913 and was buried alongside him.
