Alice Crump married elderly barber Beverly Ware just a few months after his wife, Nannie, had died. Nannie's obituary indicated she had no children.
Alice would kill herself with a dose of carbolic acid, they said, one morning. Beverly left his barber shop to go home and check on her and found her lying across the bed, their young child in the front room. He said he called three doctors to come for her and finally got one to come, too late to save her life. Beverly said he thought Alice had been distraught because he had given her $6.50 to use to pay a gas bill and she had failed to pay it and perhaps thought he would be upset with her....
His obituary says that when he died 8 years later he had yet another wife and children. The 1910 census right after Alice's death showed no child in his home just four roomers.
