MORGAN EDGECOMB
Morgan Edgecomb died at his home in this city Saturday evening, Sept. 25, aged 74 years.
Mr. Edgecomb has been in failing health all summer and seriously ill the past few weeks. He was born in Loraine Co., Ohio, coming to this state in early manhood.
On Jan. 1, 1874, Mr. Edgecomb married Miss Nancy Adeline Shipman at LaCrosse. They came to Carthage to establish their home, where Mr. Edgecomb had a position as engineer in the Hobart flour mill at this place.
To this union were born five children: Fred and James of this city, Mrs. Charles Hittner of near Carthage, Mrs. Bessie Arnold of this city and Floyd of Burlington, all of whom with the wife survive. He is also survived by a brother, Wm. G. Edgecomb, of Sangatuck [sic], Mich., who attended the funeral, and a half brother ][sic], Peter D. Edgecomb, of Buffalo, N. Y.
Mr. Edgecomb was always a quiet, peace loving man, faithful to a duty and devoted to his family.
The funeral was held at the residence Monday afternoon. Judge Scofield officiating. Word having been received that the brother William was enroute [sic] to Carthage, the interment was postponed until Tuesday, when the boy [sic] was taken to Webster for burial.
Those present from a distance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Glen Scofield, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Inman, Mr. and Mrs. Shipman, Mrs. Bates, Mrs. McGinn and grandson Clarence, of Keokuk: [sic] Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Edgecomb of Burlington; and Mr. Wm. Edgecomb of Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Harter, Philip Lehman and W. L. Arnold of Hamilton.
