Funeral services for Ben E. Mobley, 82, will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church with Dr. Douglas R. Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born Oct. 20, 1917, Ben was called home to be with the Lord June 3, 2000, after a brief illness. He and Jean Moyer were married June 5, 1948, at Ardmore. She preceded him in death Aug. 29, 1999. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Ben was a life-long resident of Ardmore and a highly respected community and business leader. He earned a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of law degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1941 and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Following graduation, Ben served in the United States Air Force as a JAG officer in World War II. Returning to Ardmore following the war, Ben joined his older brother, Gerald, in the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company, which they owned and operated for more than 30 years.

He was an enthusiastic supporter of many civic groups, but he had a special love for the Boy Scouts of America. He served as president of the Arbuckle Area Council for two years, the Chickasaw District as commissioner and the South Central Region as a member of the executive board. Ben took special joy in receiving one of the scouts' highest honors, the Silver Antelope Award, in 1992.

Ben was a faithful servant of the Lord and served as chairman of the elder board of the First Christian Church for many years, overseeing the church's growth and changing needs.

Ben was a loyal supporter of OU football and was a member of the OU Foundation.

Ben was proud and supportive of his family. Only last month he participated in the college graduation ceremony of his grandson, Brandon, at Abilene, Texas. He was a tireless and joyful servant, continuously giving of himself to the Lord, his church, his family and his community.

Survivors include his daughter, Lauren Harrell, San Antonio, Texas; grandsons, Bret Harrell, fort Worth, Texas, and Brandon Harrell, San Antonio; one brother, Robert, Dallas and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bearers are Ross Coe, Fred Collins, Johnnie Harrell, Michael Hunt, Ken Milburn and Ray Shipley.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Kevin Reed and the staff of Mercy Memorial Health Center, 3rd Floor EAst, who provided such compassionate care for Ben and consideration for the family during Ben's final days.

The Ben Mobley Memorial Fund has been established with the Arbuckle Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 5309, Ardmore, OK 73402.

Services are under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
