The son of Charles and Eleanor Bowyer ,his obituary states he was born somewhere near Bristol, England. Immigrating early in life he resided the last 45 years in Illinois, living in both Bement & Sadorus before coming to Champaign in about 1898. Employed as a painter and paperhanger he was forced to retire from the trades due to his health. About three weeks before his death serious medical issues would necessitate he be moved to the state hospital in Kankakee. Although his wife, Caroline, would be notified of his decline a few days before his death, she and his step-daughter, Anna, would not receive a telegram telling them of his passing until three days after he died. A 45 year member of the Masons he was well know and liked through out the county.

A telegram was received this morning announcing the death of Alfred Bowyer, 112 West Hill street, which occurred at the hospital in Kankakee during the night. He was taken to the hospital only a short time ago.
The body will be brought to Champaign this evening and the funeral will occur from the family home at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, in charge of the Masonic lodge, of which Mr. Bowyer had been a long time member.Son of Charles and Eleanor Boyer
