John's obituary read: "DEATH CLAIMS MAROA RESIDENT - John Marlatt Ill Two Years Dies Early Friday Morning Maroa, Illinois March 12.-John Marlatt, who had been ill in his home here the past two years, died suddenly early Friday morning. His condition became worse a couple of days ago, but it was not thought by his family that there was any immediate danger of his death. The family was aroused about 5 o'clock, when his condition became alarming, and he died before a physician could reach his bedside.

Mr. Marlatt was a retired farmer, having resided here six years. He was born in Ohio, and when a child his parents moved to Covington, Indiana. Mr. Marlatt lived there until 1868, when he came to Macon county. For several years he resided on a farm west of the city and about 1882 purchased 174 acres near Maroa.

He leaves a widow and the following children: Roy of Middle Inlet, Wis.; Harry of Sac county, Iowa; Mrs. Minnie Greenfield, living near Argenta, Illinois.; Miss Kate, at home; and Albert and Lynn, who reside on the home farms. Six years ago Mr. and Mrs. Marlatt retired from the farm and moved here. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Christian Church, conducted by Rev. H. H. Jenner. Burial was in the Maroa cemetery."
