In 1945, John was drafted into the US Army and served his country loyally until the end of World War II, when he took a train and hitchhiked his way home to the family farm where he spent the remaining years of his life. He was a man satisfied with his own square inch. A farmer through and through, he still baled hay and went to the barn in his nineties. John was a lifetime member of the New Centerville and Rural Vol. Fire Co. and will be missed at the annual Farmers and Thresherman's Jubilee, where he volunteered for more than 60 years, and at the Kingwood Picnic, where he and his family ran a hamburger stand for decades.
John was married to the former Maude Colflesh who preceded him in death along with their infant son, Barry Ray, daughter-in-law, Rita G. Kreger, brother, Harold D. Kreger and sisters, Anna L. Kreger and Dorothy E. Ziegenfuss. He is survived by his beloved son, John William Kreger, Jr; two grandchildren, of whom he was very proud; brothers, Charles W. Kreger (Cora Lee) and Orville "Tub" Kreger (Helen Hunt) and friend of 53 years, Ronald DeBacco (Janey).
Farmers feed people, so in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Confluence Food Pantry in John's memory. Interment in Kingwood IOOF Cemetery.
