Rebecca McSwain was the daughter of William and Judith Moore McSwain and the first wife of George Champion, son of William and Mollie Hamrick Champion. She was the mother of two: Margaret Champion (1817–1848) and Judith Champion (1822–1858.) Both daughters married William Carr McSwain. He was the son of James and Rachel Riggins McSwain.

Mrs. Champion died young. Per the North Carolina, U.S., Historical Records Survey, Cemetery Inscription Card Index, 1700-2018, she died at age 36 years and 23 days making her date of birth as recorded. After her death, her widower married Elizabeth Bostic.
