David McSwain was the oldest of the twelve children born to William McSwain and his first wife, Judith Moore. He was the namesake of his paternal grandfather. William McSwain was a soldier in the American Revolution. The Daughters of the American Revolution honored his service by designating him DAR Ancestor Number A076504, making his descendants are eligible to join the DAR / SAR / CAR.

Mary Lovelace, Thomas Lovelace, and Nathaniel Lovelace were siblings. They were the children of Asa and Susanna Hardin Lovelace.

Note: Many family trees are peppered with the name "Drury Dobbins." These were the namesakes of the Reverend Drury Dobbins who was known as the Father of the Baptist denomination in western North Carolina. Reverend Dobbins officiated more weddings, conducted more funerals, was honored with more namesakes, and delivered the Gospel more than any other minister of his time.
