OBITUARY

MURDO EWEN MURRAY of Virden, Sask. (formerly of Milan)

Murdo Ewen Murray passed away on Saturday, December 20, 1980, at Virden District Hospital.

Mr. Murray was born on March 10, 1893, at Milan, Que., where he lived until 1914. He then worked in Springfield, Mass., U.S.A. for three years, returning to Milan in 1917. He lived in Milan until his retirement to Virden in 1959. While in Springfield he worked in a paper mill. He farmed at Milan and was a rural mail carrier for 30 years along with his farming. Mr. Murray was a member of the Presbyterian Church, served for several years on the Board of Managers of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, of Milan, and was a faithful choir member.

He was a faithful supporter of all community activities and was particularly interested in watching baseball and hockey in later years. Mr. Murray was also a 65-year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, having joined the Lewis Lodge in Milan. He held the office of Past Grand and served as District Deputy two terms. He was given a life membership in the Virden Lodge No 13 in November, 1962. Mr. Murray served as a school trustee for several terms and was a valued member on town council while living at Milan.

Mr. and Mrs. Murray had celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on December 15, 1980.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Edythe, of Virden; three sons, Len of Scotstown, Que., Walter of Chilliwack, B.C., George R. of Brandon: three daughters, Mrs. John Curtis (Mavis) of Willowdale, Ont., Mrs. Peter Brunt (Hazel) of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Duncan Welch (Alene) of Virden; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. John N Mackenzie (Christie) of Scotstown, Quebec, and Mrs. Katie Morrison of Ottawa; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Martha.

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 23, 1980 at Carscadden's Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. James Reaves.

Interment was in Virden cemetery.

Pall bearers were David Penny, Lawrence Anderson, Vern Anderson, Clarence Boon, Gordon Grose, and Norman Welch.
