Henry P. Andrae, age 93 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, January 12, 2008, at his home. He was born September 13, 1914, in Jefferson City, a son of Henry P. and Augusta Neef Andrae. He was married December 27, 1939, in Springfield to Helen E. Walton, who died April 16, 1998. He attended local parochial and public schools and received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Missouri. He began practicing law in Jefferson City in 1937. He was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 1942 and reelected in 1946 and 1948. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946, rising in rank from private to captain. He was on the staff of General Douglas MacArthur in the Philippines and in Japan and was awarded the Legion of Merit. In 1946, he and the late John Hendren founded the firm of Hendren and Andrae where he practiced until his retirement. He was elected to the American College of Trial Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America. He was a member of the Cole County, Missouri and American Bar Associations. He initiated a regular column in the Journal of the Missouri Bar, "The Flag", commenting on court decision. Active in civic affairs, he chaired or co-chaired bond issue campaigns to build the senior High School, three grade schools, the High Street viaduct, two swimming pools and two city parks, in addition to chairing fund drives for the Community Chest and the United Way. In 1948, the Chamber of Commerce voted him its Outstanding Young Citizen. He served six years as a member of the Board of Curators of the University of Missouri, chairing its Executive Committee. He was an honorary colonel on the Staffs of Governors Forrest Donnell and John Dalton. He was a member of the social fraternities TAX and Phi Delta Theta and the professional fraternity Phi Delta Phi. An avid outdoorsman, he fished, shot or golfed in some 54 countries and all 50 states. At his death, he held the longest membership in the Jefferson City Country Club where he was golf champion once and president twice. He served for 10 years as president of the Men's Intercity Golf Association and was a founder of the Missouri Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. Survivors include: three daughters, Jane Vetter and Mary Pool, both of Jefferson City, and Helen Harrison, Key West, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Walton Vetter, New Orleans, La., Alex Vetter, Chicago, Ill., Dr. Henry A. Pool Greensboro, N.C., Scott Pool, Jefferson City, James Pool, Dallas, Texas, Ben Harrison and Cole Harrison, both of Key West; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Andrae, in 1973. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with private interment in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial are suggested to The Sheltered Workshop or The Goshorn Learning Center. Arrangements are under the direction of the Buescher Memorial Home.
