Betty was born July 8, 1930, to Arthur and Anna (Collins) Carney in Rock Island, Illinois. At age 17, she met the love of her life, Ruben Nungesser, and they married two months later. She was a fully devoted wife for 72 years. Together, they opened Nungesser Plumbing in Mulvane, Kansas. All five of their children and many of their grandchildren were raised at the plumbing shop, first located on Main Street and later on Mulvane Street. She was truly a matriarch for the business and family alike.

Betty enjoyed crocheting, putting puzzles together, taking care of her flowers, going on walks, solving word search puzzles, watching her family play sports, and having long phone conversations with family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy.

Betty was a member of First Baptist Church where she served as the nursery coordinator for many years. After she and Ruben retired, she babysat in their home and loved the children she cared for.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Nungesser; parents, Arthur and Anna Carney; brother, Ray Carney; sisters, Vera Nash, Veda Campbell; and daughter-in-law, Donna Nungesser.
