Nancy's parents, Nathan Williams and Elizabeth Lapp, were both from United Empire Loyalist families who moved into the Cobourg area in the late 1700's. Nathan was known to be an itinerant preacher from 1794 until 1846 when he became blind. Elizabeth Lapp the oldest sibling of several brothers and sisters, came with her parents to Canada in about 1790. She was the daughter and granddaughter of UEL families of Jeremiah Lapp, and Amy Smith.
Nancy Williams and David Lindsay, were married about 1819. They were farmers, and part of the brave and industrious generation who were developing a new country wilderness into a family lifestyle. They had 7 children, all born in Canada. In about 1836 the family moved to Illinois in the United States. It was a similar cycle for many of the Loyalists families.
