Mrs. Bertha Vaughan Bland, 72, of 10112 Baltimore Road, Ford Virginia, died Monday October 3, 2016 at the Dinwiddie Health and Rehabilitation Center. Bertha was a loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend, and caregiver to her uncles, Edward and Luther Clark. She loved gardening and cooking was her passion. She enjoyed cross word puzzles and coloring. Her main passion was serving the Lord. At an early age, she was baptized and joined the Mt. Poole Baptist Church, Ford VA, where she served faithfully. She is preceded in death by her mother, Leola Clarke Howard and her father, Kenley Vaughan, step father, George Wyatt Howard. She was a 1964 graduate of Midway High School. Bertha was a retired employee of Titmus Optical after 40 years of dedicated service.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Howard Junie Bland.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Friday October 7, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Mount Poole Baptist Church, Ford, Virginia, with the pastor, Rev. Stephen Pugh, officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Thursday October 6, 2016 from 12 Noon to 8 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church on the day of the service.
