Midge was born in Laurel, Mississippi on October 6, 1921 to Albert Samuel Windham and Estelle McIntosh Windham. She lived in Laurel, Jackson and Natchez while growing up. Midge graduated from high school in Natchez, then studied voice and music at LSU. In 1942 she married her high school sweetheart Natale A. Salvo, Jr. "Nate". After the army and Nate's graduation from LSU, they made their home in Jackson in 1947 when Nate began his career as a CPA.
Midge had a full life blessed with many talents. While their children were young she was active volunteering and serving with various school projects and community groups. Her love of music from classical to Big Band, and her love of dance began as a child and continued throughout her life. Midge was always creative and artistic, whether she was sewing clothes, cooking and entertaining, designing scenery and costumes for a play, or painting a mural on her dining room wall. She also enjoyed researching family genealogy, as her family was her greatest treasure. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren fondly called her "MeMe."
Midge and Nate were charter members of St. Richard Catholic Church where they were dedicated parishioners throughout their life. Midge was a pioneer leader of the Small Faith Community, faithfully leading their first Seniors SFC and for many years. She also helped with the first Young at Heart group and was very active in the CWA.
She was married to her beloved husband, Nate, for 62 years before he passed away in 2004. The following year Midge moved to St. Catherine's Village, joining many old friends. She enjoyed the choir, serving on the Welcome Committee and the Villager, playing bridge, bingo and her favorite game, Rummikub.
Midge was an amazing lady. She was so surprised that she lived to be 100 years and truly had "the time of her life" at her party. Midge deeply loved all her family and cherished her many friendships. Filled with trust in God's Will for her, she always had a sparkle in her smile. The goodness, grace, fortitude and love that Midge generated is embedded forever in the hearts of her family, her friends and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Natale A. Salvo Jr., son Nate Salvo III and brother Albert "Butch" S. Windham.
She is survived by two daughters Tricia Powers (Bill) and Cheryl Lester; daughter-in-law Jan Salvo; nine grandchildren, Will Powers (Klaire), Brian Powers (Monica), Chris Powers, Rob Lester (Sheryl), Adam Lester, Kelly Lester, Ashley Lester (Sarah), Jeffery Salvo (Cassie), and David Salvo; 18 great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter; two brothers, Kenny Windham and Tommy Windham; and sister, Beverly Windham Kirksey.
