Bernice Hensrud was born April 17, 1920 to Bernt and Johanna Hensrud near Mekinock, ND. She was raised and educated at Mekinock. Bernice married Emery Haugen on November 15, 1941 at her parent's home near Mekinock. They lived and farmed near Manvel, ND. Emery Haugen died May 8, 1977. She moved to Tufte Manor in Grand Forks in June of 2004 and to Valley Eldercare in December of 2004. Bernice enjoyed genealogy and helped compile many area family histories for the Grand Forks County history book. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed travel with the Grand Forks Senior Citizens, bird watching, working with the church ladies aid and crochet and quilting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, by an infant daughter and by sisters, Grace, Irene, Effie and Gladys and a brother Ernest.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday June 28, 2006 in Middle Grove Lutheran Church of Manvel, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8:00 p.m. with an 8:00 p.m. prayer service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. And will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Middle Grove Cemetery of Manvel, ND.
