Peggy Merritt's brother William Merritt married Emily Rauschelbach who is a daughter of Ferdinand and Sophia Rauschelbach.
When I was little I heard many stories of the Rauschelbach children from my grandmother Emma Vanpool Paul. She said, it was so sad as the children were hemophiliacs (bleeders) and they died so tragically. Grandma was sad when she told these stories. She said Sophia was a wonderful mother and she grieved so for her lost children. This is a story I heard in my childhood and I have no documentation for the story. Memories of setting around the big, oak kitchen table with my family listening to talk of family members long gone has encouraged me to care about their graves and the need to honor the lives of the people who are buried in this charming little cemetery. They live forever in our memories when we tell the stories.
Bonnie Morris Conrad great granddaughter of John Carroll Vanpool and Peggy Ann Merritt
The children in this family who died young had Hemophila. Emily who was 6 years in this census married William Merritt and is buried at Hopewell Cemetery.
