Actress. The youngest of five children, she was born and raised in Aurora, Portage County, northern Ohio. Her family moved extensively during the first few years of her life, before eventually settling in New Jersey. Following the deaths of her father and elder brother in 1983, Heche and her surviving family members relocated to Chicago. It was there, while playing a part in a high school theatre production, that she was discovered by a talent scout who invited her to audition for a role in the long running CBS soap series, "As the World Turns." Two years after her initial audition, she was again offered a role on NBC's soap opera, "Another World." During her four year tenure on the program, Heche garnered a Daytime Emmy Award for "Best Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series," and two Soap Opera Digest Awards for "Outstanding Female Newcomer," and "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama." During the subsequent two years, she expanded upon her newfound success, featuring in a number of syndicated television programs and made for television movies. Her first role in a feature film came in 1993 when she portrayed Mary Jane Wilks in the Stephen Sommers film, "The Adventures of Huck Finn." Over the next few years, Heche was cast in supporting roles for a number of prominent films. Film credits during this time included roles in 1997's "Donnie Brasco," Volcano," "I Know What You Did Last Summer," and "Wag the Dog." The following year she attained her first starring role on film when she played opposite of Harrison Ford in the adventure film, "Six Days, Seven Nights." Other contemporary starring credits include 1998's "Return to Paradise" and the Gus Van Sant remake of Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece, "Psycho," in which Heche reimagined Janet Leigh's role of Marion Crane. At the turn of the twenty-first century, she stepped back from high profile film roles, acting in a number of independent films and returning to her roots in television. In 2002, Heche made her first foray into the world of Broadway when she played the role of the tormented mathematician Catherine in the David Auburn play, "Proof." For her role in the Lifetime network drama "Gracie's Choice," she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy. For her role in the Broadway production "Twentieth Century" she earned a Tony Award nomination for, "Best Actress in a Play." As the first decade of the new millennium came to a close, her career continued on, branching out in a wide variety of films and other media. Her credits during this time were diverse, featuring in comedies such of 2011's "Cedar Rapids," horror films such as 2013's "Nothing to Fear," and roles in action thrillers like 2014's "Wild Card." In addition to her live film and television roles, she also lent her voice to characters in the animated series, "The Legend of Korra" and "Adventure Time." For her contributions to the field of acting, Heche received numerous nominations for a wide range of awards such as the "Saturn," "Prism," and "Satellite Awards." In 2000 she was honored as one of the recipients of the Los Angeles chapter of Women in Film's "Lucy Award." During the 2019 Sarasota Film Festival, she was honored with a Career Achievement Award.
