Farmington - Edgar Anthony Detring passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, at the age of 84 years. He was born on July 30, 1922, at Libertyville, son of the late Conrad F. and Grace (Graham) Detring. He was also receded in death by two brothers, Donald and Robert Detring, a daughter-in-law, Glenda Faye (Nicholson) Detring and a grand-daughter, Donna Dean Wilkerson.
A graduate of Libertyville High School, MR. Detring was a lifetime resident of the Farmington area. He was a member of the Farmington Christian Church Disciples of Christ, where he served as an Elder. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Japan, where he attended the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5896 and the American Legion Post 416. Before his retirement, he was employed as a Service Manger at the Farmington State Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Elizabeth (Gibson) Detring of Festus, four sons, Ron Detring of Bentonville, Ark., and Larry Detring (Debbie) of Cleveland, Tenn., Eugene Horton (Wanda) of Fenton, and Marvin Horton (Betty) of Desloge, three daughters, Aldean Wilkerson (Don) of Pevely, Marie Gross (Kenny) of De Soto, and Kathy Swim of Fenton, a brother, Van Detring (Jean) of Farmington, 15 grandchildren , 17 great grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. Numerous other relative and friends also survive.
Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel today from 5 to 9 p.m. Combined V.F.W. and American Legion services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday. Visitation will resume at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Cozean Chapel with the Rev. Dale Berck officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens, Memorials may be directed to the Farmington Christian Church or American Cancer Society.
