Obituary
Nancy Kirk, 74, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2022 in Longview. Nancy was born May 6, 1948 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Oliver Grant Actkinson and Tessie May Hollabaugh Actkinson. On June 26, 1965, she married the love of her life, Don Kirk, whom she met at the movies in middle school. Nancy retired from General Motors, where she was an assembly line worker and involved in the Quality Department.

She enjoyed many hobbies including painting, ceramics, crossword puzzles, and was a devoted Elvis fan. She taught Sunday school for many years at Summer Grove United Methodist in Shreveport. She worked tirelessly to be the hands and feet of Christ, through The United Way, Angel Tree, and many other ministries geared to serving others.

Nancy's greatest love was her grandchildren. She cherished each and every moment spent with them. With three granddaughters, there were plenty of tea parties, bed parties, movie watching, and LOTS of laughter, hugs, and memories. She was known as "Grandma's Taxi" (and had the license plate to prove it) because she was always picking them up and taking them wherever they needed to be.

Family was everything to Nancy and she loved each and every one of them with all her heart. She will be will be greatly missed by all who knew her and were blessed by her love. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Kirk; five sisters and three brothers; and son-in-law, Johnny Horne. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Horne and Katherine Hawley; grandchildren, Lexi Little (Grant), Madi Horne, and Natalie Hawley; great grandson, Barrett Little; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends and family who loved her dearly.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.meadowbrookfh.com. Donations can be made in her memory to The Alzheimer's Association or to a local charity of your choice that helps those in need.

A Tribute to Nancy written shortly before she died by her daughter, Katherine

You were my best friend for so long, until this horrible disease took your mind. You were there for me for all the milestones - all the celebrations, big or small, the heartache, the little things in life and the giant ones. You made life better for everyone around you. You went from the sweetest person ever to not even recognizing me.

We used to call each other to play $100,000 pyramid with the volume off on the tv. Oh how I miss those phone calls. Every day. At least once a day.

I miss the caring, selfless person you were. You were the one that taught me selfless love, modeling this with everyone you ever met. You gave and gave, then gave more. But until today, I had that little bit of hope that a miracle would happen. You would know me again. Or I would get that wonderful, full of love hug from you that always warmed my soul. Or they would find a cure.

I miss the notes in my l school lunch. I miss sharing popcorn, watching you do crossword puzzles or painting ceramics. I like to think I channeled your spirit painting some artwork this weekend. But I will never be half the artist you were. You always knew the perfect touch of something that was missing in whatever I was crafting.

Life will be harder, knowing you won't be in my corner. Life will be sadder, knowing my daughter doesn't have you to spoil her. As you wait on earth for heaven's gates to open, at least I know your tears will be wiped away. No more pain or suffering, whole for the first time since this horrible disease took everything away that made you, you. I love you Mom.
