James S. Tilbury, 86, of Bridgeport, died on Sunday, Aug. 4, at Rose's Place Adult Care House at Brewster.

He was born on Jan. 6, 1910, the son of James Wilson Tilbury and Josephine Brody at Birch Lake Township, Minnesota.

He attended school and graduated from high school in Minnesota. On Dec. 23, 1934, he married Ethel Orena Sawyer in Minnesota. They moved to Bozeman, Montana in 1948 where he worked for the logging industry.

In 1950, they moved to Twisp where he worked for Wagner's Sawmill. He later became a mechanic at a local garage. After that, he owned and operated an automotive shop.

In 1990, he and his wife retired and moved to Bridgeport where they have since resided. He was a member of the Rocky Butte Nazarene Church and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife of the home; four sons of Chelan – Ron, Lyle, James, and Ivan; three daughters – Janet Thedorff and Darlene Baumgardner of Chelan, and Joyce Andrews of Clifton, Texas; two brothers; three sister; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Steven Silas Tilbury.
