Edward L. Fisher, 87, of Hickory, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 at Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born Jan. 29, 1925 in Brookford, he was the son of the late Edmond Fisher and Gertrude Vanhorn Fisher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Orville Fisher. A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College and was a salesman in furniture and appliances. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Jetton Fisher of Hickory; two sons, Larry Fisher and his wife, Linda of Mooresville and Kevin Fisher of Columbia, S.C.; two daughters, Leslie Stewart and her husband, Dan of Hickory and Laura Fisher and her husband, Stewart Powell of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Andrew Fisher, Patrick Fisher, Blythe Fisher, Rachel Fisher and Graham Sigmon; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
