On September 12th, 2005, Orville Harding Fisher left this life to be with his lord and savior Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Katherine, three sons, Terry (Donna) Phillip (Carol) Richard (Janice) and his daughter Lynda Fisher MacDonald (Danny) his ten Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren.
Orville was the son of Edmond Loyd Fisher and Gertie Ella Vanhorn. Brother to Clarence who passed in 1947, Lewis Lamar, Edward Loyd Jr.,, and Frances Fisher Logan Daniel.
Orville was born December 31st 1920 in the town of Rhodhiss, Caldwell County, North Carolina. Orville attended Mountain View High School and graduated with honors in 1937. Orville worked at the Shuford Textile Mill in Brookford, Catawba County North Carolina before enlisting in the Army in 1939. He re-enlisted June 20, 1942 after serving with the U.S Engineers Dept. in Honolulu Territory of Hawaii. Orville was a Staff Sgt attached to the 20th Ferry Wing, U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942, responsible for moving Air Planes to and from destinations to support the War effort. While stationed in Nashville, Tennessee, he met Katherine Snyder at a church social. They were married May 18, 1943 in Nashville Tennessee. Orville finished his military career with the U.S.A.F achieving the rank of Captain and retired in 1964. Posthumously promoted to Major. He worked for the U.S. Census Bureau as a computer systems analyst and retired again in 1974.
Orville was a loving Husband and family man. Provided for and raised his children in a Christian home. He was an avid gardener and managed a 243 acre Tree Farm in Greer South Carolina. Orville was a member of the Brandywine Bible Church. Laid to rest on September 12, 2005 at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, Maryland.
