Basil was the son of James Lewis Hornsby and Mary Emily Burks, after his father's death in 1927 he refused to live with his mother. He is listed in the 1930 census living with a Crawford when he was old enough he left Wva., upon his leaving he had said he was going to take my mom with him as she was the baby of the family my mom's older brothers watched her like a hawk my mom said he used to send post cards from different states. After the mid 1940's he was not heard from again.
