A laborer and marble worker, Archibald was married twice. His first marriage was to Nancy, also born in Ireland, prior to 1838 when their first child Robert was born at Boston. Additional children included Thompson, born ca. 1842; Turbett, born ca. 1843; and Martha, born ca. 1849.
Widowed in 1851, Archibald married for a second time to 40-year-old Sarah Young, the daughter of George Young, at Boston on May 16, 1857. No children resulted from the marriage.
Archibald was, according to the Boston death record, 48 years of age when he died of Consumption (Tuberculosis) at his home located at 136 Prince St. in Boston's North End. Interment was at Mount Hope Cemetery.
