Mary graduated from East Mecklenburg High School. Prior to retirement, Mary worked for the Dial Corporation for many years, as a sales coordinator, where she met some of her dearest and lifelong friends. Mary was an active member of Amity Presbyterian Church. Whether volunteering at church, serving meals at the homeless shelter, delivering friendship trays, or supporting family and friends, she was at her happiest helping others. Anyone that met her quickly recognized her kind, loving nature.
Mary's greatest treasure was her family. She loved attending ball games, watching movies and sports, playing Rook or doing anything with her children or grandchildren. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend and leaves a legacy of love for all who knew her.
She was married to Ben (Benny) Elwyn Hicks for 27 years, until he preceded her in death in 1989. In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by her parents, Felix and Estelle Helms.
