In 1829, on Oct. 6 in Williamstown, Oswego County, New York, Calista was born to Abigail (nee Hough) and Henry Barringer.
In 1844, she moved with her parents (and 9 siblings) to Wisconsin.
On March 23, 1845 at the age of 15, she married Stephen Owen Hadley.

Mother of 13:
1846– Lyman Kinney Hadley (d. 1937)*
1848– Charles Henry Hadley (d. 1930)*
1849– Laura Roselva Hadley Kirkland Moore Blakely (d. 1939)*
1850– Lewis Stephen Hadley (d. 1894)
1853– Emma Jane Hadley Kenny (d. 1938)*
1856– Harrison Daniel Hadley (d. 1934)
1856– Angeline Elizabeth Hadley Backus (d. 1946)*
1860– Mary Adele (Della May) Hadley Blakely (d. 1906)
1862– Sylvia Abigail Hadley Boyce (d. 1935)
1865– Anna Lydia Hadley Boyce (d. 1938)*
Sylvia and Lydia's husbands were (second?) cousins, sharing the same Boyce grandparents who had migrated also from New York, to Michigan.

1868– Justin James Hadley (d. 1938)*
1870, July 16 – Twins Minnie Hadley and Lavinia Lovinia Hadley (d. 8/27/1870, living almost a month and a half)*
..............................
Together the family became prosperous farmers. They belonged to the Methodist-Episcopal Church at North Lake for more than 40 years. Calista took her religion seriously. It was said that her life was as near perfect as could be. Just before she died she sang "Just as I Am," a moving Christian hymn.

"Mrs. Stephen O. Hadley departed this life Saturday, March 11, 1893. She had been sick for nine months and during the interim suffered greatly from cancer. Her maiden name was Calista Bearenger [sic]. She was 63 years old. The morning before she died she sang a hymn and selected three to be used at the funeral which was held at the Unadilla M E church Monday, March 13. Agreeable to her request she was interned [sic] on the homestead." Pinckney Dispatch Obituary: 16 MAR 1893.

In 1901, her husband was buried in North Lake Cemetery, and the stone lists both their names. It may be a cenotaph, as it is unknown if she was reinterred.
