Freeman Humphrey, 92, of Harrisburg, passed away at his residence at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008.

Freeman was born on June 15, 1915, in Harrisburg to the late Robert Daniel and Nora Belle (Love) Humphrey. He married Lois Hancock and she preceded him in death. He later married Ida Mae Booten in March of 1958. She survives in Harrisburg. He was a member of the Gaskins City Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife Ida, he is survived by 10 children, Bob Humphrey and wife Peggy of Harrisburg, Ronald Humphrey and wife Audrey of Kokomo, Ind.; Lenora Basham of Las Vegas, Nev., Margaret Prather and husband Lindell of Harrisburg, Peggy Richey and husband Dale of Kankakee, Charles M. Humphrey of Harrisburg, Francis Holliman and husband Vonnie of Gulfport, Miss.; Phillip Humphrey, Carol Wilkinson of Fort Meyers, Fla., Terri Stevens and husband Roger of Raleigh; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, the Rev. Clayton Humphrey; sister, Omegene Saylor; and by two grandsons, Billy Murray and Patrick Moyer.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at the Ingram Hill Cemetery, the Rev. Don Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in Ingram Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and Gaskins City Baptist Church.
