Actress. She was born Maryanne Ott and she made her stage debut as Ann Flood in the 1954 production of the musical "Kismet." She also appeared on stage in the 1957 production of "Holiday for Lovers" with well-known actor Don Ameche. Her television debut was made in the live production of the play "The Fortune Hunter" in 1952. During her time in television she became best known as Nancy Pollock Karr, the journalist and author on the soap opera "The Edge of Night." During her 22 years with the show, that began in 1962 she saw the show go from a live production to taped broadcasts and its move from CBS to ABC. After "The Edge of Night" ended she continued to perform in other television soap operas in shorter-term and recurring roles such as "Search for Tomorrow," "Another World," "One Life to Live," "As the World Turns," and "All My Children." She even made a guest starring appearance on "The Cosby Show." After a 38-year career that ran from 1952 until 1990, she retired from acting. She received two Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1982 and 1984 for her leading role in "The Edge of Night." She was married since 1952 to former sportscaster and media network executive Herb Granath and together they had 4 children.
