Cecile "Prewitt" Lindsey Weinheimer, age 86 of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at the Villa St. Francis Nursing Facility in Olathe, Kansas.

She was born April 9, 1921, in Linn Creek, Missouri, the daughter of Robert Henry and Nora Fadette "Cable" Prewitt. Cecile moved to Kansas from Missouri in 1926 with her family at the age of five and settled on a farm southwest of Pomona, Kansas.

She attended a one-room schoolhouse of Middleton Elementary and Pomona High School with the class of 1940. She was a member of the Pomona High School Alumni.

She was united in marriage to Gerald "Pete" Lindsey on June 27, 1938, in Leavenworth, Kansas. They shared 47 years of marriage before the death of her husband on January 2, 1986. On October 27, 1989, Cecile married Robert James Weinheimer. Sadly Bob passed away one month and a day later on November 28, 1989.

Cecile was involved in many activities in her life. She was a leader for the Victory Workers 4-H Club in Pomona. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pomona; Pomona Red Hat Society; Oasis Club; Eastern Star Chapter 305 of Pomona; and Pomona E.H. U. Extension Unit.

She worked at the Sunflower Ammunition Plant in De Soto, Kansas; Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa as a nurse's aide; Red Cross Home Nursing Program; and worked four years as a seamstress at H.D. Lee Company in Ottawa.

Politics was a big part of her life and she belonged to many board and committees through the years. She was president of Franklin County Republican Women's Organization and was the clerk of Pomona Township Board for fifteen years. She was appointed by former Gov. Robert Bennett to the statewide Health Coordinating Health Council and was appointed by former Gov. Mike Hayden to the State Board of Mortuary Arts.

She was also on the Hill-Burton Comprehensive Health Planning Activities Committee and served as director of the Board of NE Kansas Health System Agency.

Cecile was a Pomona Township Republican Precinct Committeewoman for thirty-five years and also served on the State committee.

She was president of the Franklin County H.D.U. Council. She was nominated by Senator Phil Gramm of Texas, and received a Presidential commission to serve on the National Republican Senatorial Committee. In 1996 she was an at-large delegate for the Republican Platform Planning Committee.

Cecile enjoyed entertaining and provided political receptions in her historic Pomona home for such dignitaries as Congressman Larry Winn, Republican governors and other officials including Senator Bob Dole in 1974. She was asked to be an official greeter at the Greater Kansas City airport for the 1976 Republican convention, greeting all the dignitaries and delegates from each state. Cecile was very well known for her support of Bob Dole. She had license plates for her car that read "Dole 88" and "Dole 96."

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; a son Gary Lee Lindsey; a daughter, Patsy Darlene Cox; a baby grandson, Steven M. Cox; three brothers, Maurice, Norman and Robert Prewitt; two sisters, Pauline Collins and Ruby Nowling; and her parents.

Survivors include a son, Michael Darrell Lindsey and wife Marina of Lawrence; a son-in-law, David Cox of Overland Park; four grandchildren, Greg Cox and wife Jane of Olathe, Jan Skillman and husband Doug of Olathe, Wendy Smith and husband Ted of Lawrence, and Melissa Colvin and husband Daniel of Texas; nine great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Rebecca Skillman, Audrey and Mary Ellen Cox, Ronald, William and Lindsey Smith, Lindsey, Noah and Jacob Colvin.
