Waipawa Mail, 6 Nov 1900
The many friends of Mr S. Cracknell will be sorry to hear that he is laid up with a sever attach of influenza
Waipawa Mail, 13 Nov 1900
CRACKNELL - At Waipawa, on November 10th, 1900, Samuel Cracknell, aged 44 years. Much regretted.
There was a very large assemblage this afternoon, including a number of Odd-fellows, on the occasion of the funeral of the late Mr Cracknell at Hadley cemetery. The deceased was notably a strong robust man, but a fortnight before his death he sickened with influenza, complicated with bronchitis, four days later pneumonia set in and early on Saturday morning weakness of the heart was detected and he died the same evening. It is worthy of remark that he never had but one employer, having been in the employ of Mr J. Britten for the last 32 years, a most unusual circumstance in the colony.
He leaves a widow with one son and the family were much respected. The Rev W/ Swinburn officiated at the grave and Mr A. E. Jull read the usual address to the Oddfellows.
