Hashemite Royalty. He served as the King of Hejaz and Grand Sharif of Mecca from October 3, 1924 to December 19, 1925. Son of Hussein bin Ali, he assumed his father's titles as King of Hejaz and Grand Sharif of Mecca in 1924, when his father abdicated them to him. His reign lasted only a year as the Saudi forces overran Hejaz and eventually incorporating the land into Saudi Arabia. He and his family fled to Iraq, where he passed away. His son, Abd al-ilah, later became regent to the young King Faisal II of Iraq.
