Christian Nightingale HAWTHORNE - Christian Nightingale, 78, of 374 Diamond Bridge Ave., died Wednesday at his home after a short illness. Born in Paterson, Mr. Night- ingale lived in Totowa beforemoving to Hawthorne in 1941. He was a self-employed car- penter until his retirement 19 years ago. His wife, the former Elnora Van Gelder, died in 1970.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Ave., Hawthorne, with the Rev. Herr- man Braunlin, pastor of the Hawthorne Gospel Church; of- ficiating. Interment will be in Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.
.Surviving are a son, Ronald of Wayne; six daughters, Mrs.
Louis (Elnora) DeRitter, Mrs. J. Robert (Florence) Allwood and Mrs. Paul (Jean) Schroter, all of Hawthorne, Mrs. Frank (Sarah) Koniecki of Pompton Lakes, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Sikkema of Glen Rock and Mrs. John (Shirley) Howard of Oak- land; a brother, Henry of Hawthorne; four sisters, Mrs. Russel (Jennie) Schafer of Hanover, Pa., Mrs. Ben (Julia) Carter and Mrs. Elizabeth Amerman, both of Hawthorne and Mrs. Mary Post of North Haledon; 13 grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews. A son Christian died in 1944,while serving with the Army.
