Loren P. Maruga, age 94, lifelong resident of Two Rivers, died Saturday afternoon, October 29, 2022 at the Northland Lodge, Two Rivers. Loren was born in Two Rivers on April 8, 1928 to Steve and Theresa (Behnke) Maruga.

He grew up with his family on a farm in Kewaunee County, and attended schools in Kewaunee, St. John's Lutheran in Two Rivers, and graduated from Washington High School, Two Rivers in 1945.

Loren served in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. In 1952, he joined the active Air Force Reserves, retiring in 1974 as a Master Sergeant Fire Instructor for structural firefighting with specialization in airplane crash and rescue procedures. Loren was immensely proud to have served his country, community, and his church. He really enjoyed his career working as a firefighter for the City of Two Rivers. Loren retired as a Captain in 1985 after 30 years of service. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Two Rivers and Loren served on the church council and did printing for the church for many years. He also belonged to the Lutheran Men's Club, where he served as president and secretary over the years. Loren enjoyed all sports, especially golf and football. He played semi-pro football with the Two Rivers Ramblers from 1945-1947 and was a fullback and outside linebacker for the Air Force Ellington Flyers from 1948-1951. He later played many years of league golf in Two Rivers. Loren was a great "Packer Backer" and proud season ticketholder since 1957.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Bridget Maruga of Anamosa, Iowa; grandchildren: Jacob, Michael, Samantha, and Alexandra Maruga; two stepsons: Douglas Meneau, Daniel (Cindy) Meneau of Shoto; and step-grandchildren: Mitchell (Caroline) Meneau, Kristi (Craig) Gates, Dean (Stephanie) Meneau, Andrew (Kayla) Meneau, and Renee (Chris) Winkel. He is further survived by two sisters and three brothers-in-law: Sonja (Richard) Witczak, Sharon (Donald) Waterstreet, and Russell Krueger; along with several step-great grandchildren, beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Theresa Maruga; his wife, Grace (Krueger) Maruga; his daughter, Paulette; brother, Laverne Maruga; and sisters: Irene (Edward) Morency, Ethawyn Maruga, Helen (Edward) Bialkowski, and Marilyn (Arthur) Klabunde.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3607 45th Street, Two Rivers. Rev. Stephen Kruschel will officiate at the service, with burial to follow in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers. Military graveside rites will be accorded by members of American Legion Post #165 and VFW Post #1248 of Two Rivers.
