Irene married James Ziegelbauer on October 7, 1950. She began her career at the Salvatorian Publishing Department in St. Nazianz, and later worked for the Mirro Company in Manitowoc. Alongside Jim, she operated a Budweiser and Hamm's beer distributorship, as well as The Timber Lodge, The Red Bird, and The Varsity Club. Irene and Jim had together owned and operated the North Shore Warehouse from 1972 to 2008. Irene and Jim were members of the Charter Board of Directors for Roncalli High School. She found great joy volunteering as a choir member in the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Resurrection Choir, where she was a parishioner. Irene was also a woman of many talents and hobbies, including golf – in which she participated in local tournaments, bowling, playing the harmonica, cooking, and baking her famous apple pie. Family always ranked first with Irene. She was a devoted wife and mother of six.
She is survived by five of her children: Robert Ziegelbauer, Manitowoc, WI; James Jr. (Donna) Ziegelbauer, Atlanta, GA; Donna (Philip) Platteter, Manitowoc, WI; John (Kim) Ziegelbauer, Vienna, VA; and Paul Ziegelbauer, Libertyville, IL; eight grandchildren: Katherine Ziegelbauer and James III (Samantha) Ziegelbauer; Anne (Ryan) King, Laura (John) Christianson, and Julia Platteter; Adrienne Ziegelbauer and Ensign Matthew Ziegelbauer, USN; and John Ziegelbauer; one great-grandchild: Sophia King; one brother and one sister: Robert Binversie and Janet Seichter; two sisters-in-law: Kay Binversie and Fay Binversie; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 68 years, James Ziegelbauer; her daughter: Mary Ziegelbauer; her parents: Henry and Elizabeth (Baer) Binversie; father-in-law and mother-in-law: George and Diana (Asselin) Ziegelbauer; four brothers and three sisters: Herman Binversie, Delores Klingeisen, Leona Ziegelbauer, Virginia Brennan, Roman Binversie, Stanley Binversie, and Eugene Binversie; five brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law: Florence Binversie, Lester Klingeisen, George Ziegelbauer Jr., Dean Brennan, Janet Binversie, Catherine Binversie, Gordon Seichter, Francis and Theresa Ziegelbauer, and Margaret Ziegelbauer.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. (Noon) on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Officiating at the Mass will be Rev. Richard Klingeisen with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 10:30 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi, Waldo (1121 N.14th St, Manitowoc). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Irene's name to Roncalli High School's Mary Ziegelbauer Scholarship Fund for Marquette University and St. Norbert College.
