Olimpia Soto Jimenez de Diaz was given the Breath of Life by her Creator on November 26,1933 in her cherished Cuba, and rested December 19, 2018 in Tucson, Arizona. She took her last breath peacefully after a courageous battle with Dementia/Alzheimers surrounded by her daughter Reina; son in law, Jesse; grandson, Jason and close friends, Norm and Diane. Also present, were the many loving caregivers, nurses and staff at Handmaker Memory Care, where she lived the last 9 months of her life.

Olimpia grew up and became a dental assistant and part time model in her late teens and early 20's. She was 25 when her and Luis Sosa, welcomed their only daughter Reina into the world. Shortly after, they separated and she became a single mother. A few years later, she met and married Alberto Diaz, the one that Reina would call her "papi" for the rest of his life. Together, they left Communist Cuba and arrived in California to rebuild their lives along with Reina who was 7 years old at the time. She quickly found a job at a factory in downtown L. A. and later opened her own day care business. Her beloved USA adopted her and her family in the late 1960's and there was never a day she was not thankful to be a citizen. Olimpia and Alberto were married for 50 years and later became a widow in 2009. She is survived by daughter, Reina (Jesse) Perez, whom she loved like a son; 3 grandsons, John (Karen) Perez and their children Krystina, Jared, and Korey; Jason (Nicole) Perez and their children, Justus and Declan; Randy (Vived)Perez; brother, Manuel Soto and many nieces and nephews and friends who along the way became family. She loved God and His word, especially the Psalms. Her gift was hospitality and love. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, and there was never a time when she would not open her arms or her home to feed or shelter someone. She loved praying for her family and friends and when you told her you were going somewhere or doing something fun, she would always say, "ENJOY"!.

Her daughter shares this message with love to her mother Olimpia:
"I will never have enough words to say I love you, thank you mi 'mami' for all you were to me and all you taught me about life, love, and forgiveness. I am so glad I got to hold your hand and caress your face like you did when I was little. I am so glad that our Father honored our prayers and allowed you to go home in peace and comfort. Now it is me who tells you, 'Enjoy' the reunion with our ancestors. Until we meet again, always your daughter."
