Betty Fisher Bagley, age 87, of Athens died at the Starr Regional Medical Center on Friday morning, March 27, 2015 after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Gwin (Gus) Bagley in 2008.

She was born in 1927 in Orysa (Henning), TN, the daughter of the late Alan Moorer Fisher and Larue Lankford Fisher.

She was also preceded in death by two siblings, Jane Fisher Stephens and John David Fisher.

She was a 1946 graduate of Ripley (TN) High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she served as the first female Senior Warden in the 1980s. She continued to be an active lay reader until her death., reading the Old and New Testament lessons the Sunday before she died. She was a voracious reader, active gardener, and longtime member of the yoga class at Keith Memorial United Methodist Church, attending yoga sessions three mornings a week.

Betty served as the medical records librarian at the hospital in Athens for 20 years, beginning at Epperson Hospital in 1970 and retiring from Athens Community Hospital in 1990. In 1995, tiring of retirement, she returned to work at the hospital as part time clerk in the Operating Room, finally retiring for good in 2007 at age 80.

Betty is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: James G. Bagley, Jr and Melissa Johnson Bagley (Marietta, GA); one daughter, Elizabeth B. Carlsten (Los Alamos, NM); two brothers, Alan M. Fisher, Jr. (Orysa, TN) and W. Bowlyne Fisher II (San Antonio, TX); and five grandchildren, Miles E. Carlsten(Princeton, NJ), Scott G. Carlsten (Houston, TX), Katelynn K. Mason (Nashville, TN), Andrew J. Knutson (Franklin, TN), and Hunter R. Knutson (Englewood, TN).

A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church (123 S. Jackson Street in Athens) with the Reverend G. Hendree Harrison, Jr. officiating, followed by the interment of her ashes in the columbarium area of the church garden. The family will receive friends at the church parish hall immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to either St. Paul's Episcopal Church (P.O. Box 326, Athens, TN 37371-0326); or a charity of the donor's choice.
