REMAINS OF HOBO ARE BURIED TODAY
Burial took place this forenoon in the potter's row at the M.R.E. cemetery for Charles Adams, elderly hobo who died on Sunday, December 19, at the Sam Girod home east of Berne, when he was at home alone there. Through a long research by the state police department and the F.B.I., the transient, who had gone under the assumed name of Charles Meyers, was identified and found to have a long criminal record. Relatives who have been located did not claim the body. Disposal was therefore made today by simple burial at the cost of the county. There was no service.

ELDERLY ITINERANT FOUND DEAD SUNDAY

MAN KNOWN AS CHAS. MEYERS, 70, DIED AT SAM GIROD HOME EAST OF TOWN

An itinerant in this area for nearly 40 years, who answered both to Charles and Frank Meyers, aged about 70, was found dead Sunday evening Dec. 19 at the Sam Girod home east of Berne. The man was staying at the Girod home temporarily and on Saturday had complained of pain internally but did not appear seriously ill.

Sunday morning the Girod family left home to attend Amish Church and left Meyers at home alone. When the family returned home in the late afternoon, the man's body was lying on a couch apparently dead for several hours.

It was removed to the Yager Mortuary here and efforts are made to locate relatives. Although having lived in this community many years, he never revealed any facts concerning himself and no one is certain if the name to which he answered is alias or real. He had said that a brother lives in Indianapolis but his name is not known and he also said he was born in Kentucky and came from a well known family. He had a long history of criminal activity and part of the time he was away from this area was when he was in penal institutions. His record number was 89320.

Finger prints may be sent to the Bureau of Identification at Washington for identification.
