"Jojo died of natural death. He thus broke the longevity record because he was the oldest chimpanzee in Europe, while the oldest African chimpanzee died in 2008 at the age of 63", indicates the city hall.

Well known to Nancy residents, Jojo was a figure in the Parc de la Pépinière where he had been staying for almost fifty years.

Born on June 28, 1951, he had been entrusted to the city by the owner of a menagerie in Bangui (Central African Republic).

First in a relationship with Catherine, who died in 1964, Jojo then lived with Judith from 1984 to 1995.

"Jojo was the memory of a certain mode of presentation of wild animals now abandoned", underlines the town hall of Nancy, which specifies that the animal will remain "the first and the last chimpanzee of the Nursery".
