Born Cardiganshire, Wales, Great Britain. Married to Mary Osborne Ball,November 25,1754, Welshneck, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Capt. William Ball and Mary White; she was the first cousin to George Washington's mother, Mary. Revolutionary War Soldier. Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots, Vol.1, p. —Serial: 11912; Volume: 4

Thomas was a Private in the Continental Line in the Revolution. After the Revolution he and Mary moved to Hardy Co VA now West Virginia then onto Kentucky in 1787 and then he was given a land grant of 100 acres in Clermont Co Ohio in 1800. per Mary Jane Evertz

I do not think that Thomas Brown (1730-1818) was born in Wales but likely in DE and his wife Mary was not a Ball despite the DAR records. Thomas never served in the Revolutionary War but supplied goods and services to the Army. He did live in Hardy Co., WV, near Mooresville, moving to Bourbon Co., KY ca 1787 with his family, near the Sandusky family.

Thomas Brown may have been born in Cardiganshire, Wales but I suspect that he was a s/o George Brown b. ca 1706, Millcreek Twp., New Castle Co., DE and Mary Jones b. ca 1710, Pencador Twp., New Castle Co., DE. Thomas md. ca 1754, Mary ??? (1734-1816); issue: Hannah, Mary, Sarah, Daniel, Rachel, George, William, Joseph, Rebekah, John and Annie Brown.

Thomas Brown is credited with serving in the Rev. War by the DAR but likely he gave supplies to the American Forces and did not actively serve as no record exists of his service. There is much confusion on this family

Their first child Hannah did not marry Mr. Penny - this is a myth that has been circulating for many years and Mary w/o Thomas Brown was not a Ball!

I am posting this as requested but I to not believe that Thomas Brown was born in Cardiganshire, Wales nor his wife was named Mary Osborne Ball. Her first name was Mary. I believe that he furnished supplies to the Continental Army.

I believe, Thomas Brown did serve since he has two Land Warrants for Service in the Virginia Continental Line during the American Revolution. Both Warrants signed by Governor Benjamin Harrison. The first #829 issued on 20 Jun 1783 was for 400 acres. The second, #3227, issued on 28 Jun 1784. Additionally, there are records of proceedings that certified him as entitled to Land which states he served for 3 yrs. These records were dated 22 Mar 1783 and 3 April 1784. Further statement was that he was a Drum Major in Drum and File of the 14th VA Regmt under Capt William Lovely. He is buried on a farm (his farm) in Tate Twp, Clermont Co Ohio. It is near Bethel, Ohio. Note: that May Osbourne Ball is also buried there.
